Starting Point

Mannahouse is home, and today is your starting point!

Garth Elliott

We are all on a journey to become who we were originally designed to be, fearfully and wonderfully created by the God of the universe!

This journey requires movement––to find your place and pace as you move toward God’s promises over your life.

Your Mannahouse family wants to partner with you are you move UP, IN, and OUT on this journey.

Your first step is to join our Starting Point class. Here, you can learn about Mannahouse and receive an invitation to join our community of Christ-followers. Starting Point happens during Sunday morning service after worship. Come to service as usual and when it’s time, your service host will introduce your teacher(s) and direct you to your classroom for this friendly, one-week experience.

Move Up

What does it mean to move Closer to God?

It means we're on a journey with God.

This involves spiritual growth, prayer, Bible study, worship, etc.

Move In

What does it mean to move closer to the church community?

It means you don't journey alone.

This involves loving one another, fellowship, serving together, groups, and accountability, etc.

Move Out

What does it mean to move closer to the world around us?

It means we invite others to the journey.

This involves loving people, sharing the gospel, and serving needs locally and globally.

FAQ's: Tell Me About Mannahouse

Manna: Provision for the journey

“I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.” (John 6:35)

House: Promise for the journey

“I will provide a place for my people and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that the LORD himself will establish a house for you.” (2 Samuel 7:10–11)

We are…

A Family: started in 1951 by 13 visionaries and rooted in Christ Jesus.

“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” (Ephesians 4:16 NLT)

A Vibrant & Diverse Community: multi-generational, multi-cultural, and multi-ethnic in multiple locations.

“Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the LORD. Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:20–22 NLT)

A People of Faith: witnesses to decades of miraculous provision, thousands of transformed lives, and world-wide impacting ministries such as Mannahouse Music, Mannahouse Christian Academy (MCA), Portland Bible College (PBC), missionaries, and church plants.

“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.” (Hebrews 11:1, 3 NLT)

A People on a Mission: disciples who move closer to God (UP), closer to Church community (IN), and closer to the world around us (OUT).

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19–20 NLT)

We are a non-denominational church. We are a very Bible-centered church. We highly value community and welcome everyone! Read our core beliefs. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Our mission is simple: Live Like Jesus and Share His Love.

At Mannahouse, our values are the core of what makes our church special. We are on a journey to fulfill a God-given mission to build a thriving church that impacts people everywhere.  We are people faithfully on the move, leaning forward into the uncomfortable, into the new, into His presence, and toward His promises.

“Jesus replied, ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37–40 NLT)

“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18–20 NLT)

Mannahouse envisions itself as a thriving church that impacts people everywhere.

“Now I say to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” (Matthew 16:18 NLT)

The history and legacy of Mannahouse is filled with pivotal moments, miracles, challenges, unexpected events, stories of faith, and above all, transformed lives. From its establishment, the church has expanded to a community spanning four campuses with thousands of members. The enduring values we have upheld for years are the very values that will MOVE us into the future.

  1. Jesus is our message. (Psalm 16:11 NLT)
  2. God’s Word forms our lives. (2 Timothy 3:16 NLT)
  3. The Holy Spirit empowers our mission. (Galatians 5:22–23 NLT)
  4. The table is our practice. (Acts 2:46 NLT)
  5. Discipleship is our target. (Matthew 28:19–20 NLT)
  6. Diversity is our heart.
  7. Excellence is our spirit.
  8. Giving is our privilege. (Malachi 3:10 NIV)

FAQ's: Tell Me What Mannahouse Teaches

  1. Realize that God has not been first place in your life and ask Him to forgive your sin. (1 John 1:9 NIV)
  2. Believe that Jesus died to pay for your sins and that He rose from the dead and is alive today. (Romans 10:9–10 NLT)
  3. Accept God’s free gift of salvation. Don’t try to earn it. Our relationship with God is not restored by anything we do, but on the basis of what Jesus already did for us. (Ephesians 2:8–9 NIV)
  4. Invite Jesus Christ to come into your life and be the Lord of your life. (Romans 10:13 NIV)

Yes! Water baptism is the first defining moment of a new Christian and a step of obedience. We practice baptism by full immersion in water, which is the way Jesus was baptized and the way the Bible describes it.

“Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what should we do?’ Peter replied, ‘Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'” (Acts 2:37–38 NLT)

By being water baptized, you…

1. Follow the example set by Jesus.
2. Demonstrate your changed life.
3. Declare your commitment publicly.
4. Take a first step of obedience.

Yes! The Holy Spirit is the person and power of Almighty God who comes to live in us.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever.” (John 14:16 NASB)

We encounter the Holy Spirit in predominant ways…

1. You are born of the Spirit which happens at the moment of salvation. (John 3:5 NLT)
2. You are baptized in the Spirit after salvation to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. (Luke 3:16; Acts 1:8, 2:4, 8:14–17, 10:44–48, 19:1–6 NIV) The primary evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit is speaking in a spiritual language (commonly referred to as “speaking in tongues”). (Acts 19:2, 6 NLT)
3. You are filled continually with the Spirit, part of an ongoing experience of living a Spirit-filled life. (Ephesians 5:18–19 NIV)

*The Holy spirit guides us and changes us. (John 14:16, 26 NLT; Galatians 5:22–23 NASB)
